Images of America: Norwich State Hospital by Christine Rockledge

Please join the Friends of the Preston Library as they host author Christine Rockledge.  Christine began extensively researching Norwich State Hospital in 2009 and allied with the Preston Historical Society in 2011.  She will be discussing her book Images of America:  Norwich State Hospital.  Although NSH closed in 1996, the structure has continued to be one of Connecticut’s most notable historical landmarks, despite its ongoing demolition and redevelopment. Today, Norwich State Hospital is still alive in the timeless, emotional memories employees and family members share of what it was like to work and grow up in a place where employees were not just employees and patients were not just patients; they were family.  This is a free event with light refreshments, signed books available for purchase. Please call the library at 860-886-1010 to register.

2017 Smarter Balanced Assessment

The Connecticut Department of Education (CSDE) revised their Smarter Balanced Assessment Reports. The report will now present two years of scores, comparing them side by side. CSDE made this change to emphasize a criterion-referenced interpretation for both achievement (i.e., how did my child perform relative to the achievement expectations) and growth (i.e., how did my child’s performance change from one year to the next).  As in past years, the report retains the normative data (i.e., district and school averages) in order to provide parents with an additional reference.

Click here to view samples of the report for English/Language Arts and Mathematics.

To assist parents with the interpretation of this Smarter Balanced report, the CSDE has created brief videos that are available in both English and Spanish. Those have been posted for your convenience.
